A ketogenic diet is one who has been the rave of dieticians everywhere, and has been touted as one of the most effective weight loss plans.

But what is a ketogenic diet all about?

Are ketones harmful? Only when present in large quantities which could lead to a life-threatening condition…
There is a huge difference between ketosis which is the result of a Ketogenic diet and ketoacidosis which could be the result of poor diabetes management. However, some experts maintain that the risk is there.
Talk to your doctor before you start a ketogenic diet. Why? you ask, here’s why;

1. Your kidneys: If you have an underlying kidney condition, a high protein diet can add more strain on your kidneys. This could worsen your kidneys
2. Your heart: high protein and fat gotten from animals can actually increase the risk of a heart disease.
3. Your gut: A ketogenic diet can lead to constipation, especially if you’re not getting enough fibre in your diet.
In as much as “keto” as its fondly called has numerous benefits, it still poses health risk to a few people… It is wise to talk to your doctor before starting a ketogenic diet.
