How should I brush my Teeth?

You can improve the health of your teeth by simply brushing the right way, doing that will:

 

  • prevent plaque and tartar from building up in your teeth
  • prevent cavities from forming in them
  • Reduce your risk of getting diseases in your gum

 

Widely, dental experts have always recommended brushing twice each day between two to three minutes at a time, this can help keep your teeth in its best health

How long should I brush my teeth?

 

It is recommended that you spend at least 2 to 3 minutes at a time brushing your teeth, this will help you clear plaque from your teeth, some experts say it is also the recommended amount of time needed for the fluoride in your toothpaste to be absorbed into the tooth

 

A previous study showed that most people only brushed their teeth for 45 seconds, set a timer to help you, or use a timer on your toothbrush if it is battery powered, brushing your teeth for longer has been shown to remove more plaque from your teeth, less plaque equals less tooth disease.

 

2. How Do I brush my teeth?

 

There are simple things to note at the back of your mind, follow these steps:

 

  • Hold your toothbrush at a 45-degree angle to your gum.
  • Brush with short strokes, not wide sweeping strokes that span the length of your mouth.
  • Move your toothbrush back and forth along the outside surfaces of your teeth, applying gentle pressure as you brush.
  • Use a back-and-forth motion to brush along the chewing surfaces of your teeth.
  • To properly brush the inner surfaces of your teeth, hold your toothbrush vertically and brush up and down along the insides of your teeth.
  • Brush your tongue using a few back-to-front strokes, use a tongue scraper if you can
  • Store your toothbrush in an upright position. Best to store in a cabinet and leave to air dry, avoid storing toothbrushes in close proximity to the toilet to avoid what is known as plumes
  • Floss also before brushing, this will help remove stuck pieces of food between your teeth that may not be dislodged by brushing alone

 

 

What Kind of Toothbrush should I use?

 

While most people generally prefer a hard toothbrush, because they think it cleanses their teeth better, this is far from the truth

 

Using hard toothbrushes can damage your enamel by eroding it, the enamel is the outermost layer of your teeth. Use light to a medium toothbrush, and always change them every 3 months.

Take care also not to brush too soon after acidic meals like oranges, best to rinse your mouth and chew some sugar-free gum till like an hour
