• There is research that shows that suggests we’re closer to a future where a male birth control pill exists, CNN reported.
• On Monday, the 25^thof March 2019, researchers shared early results from their study that looked at the effectiveness of 11-beta-MNTDC, a pill for males that lowers testosterone levels to prevent pregnancy
• The pill is still in its trial phases and has only been tested for safety so far, not effectiveness. So we do not know yet, just how many people it would work for
• Also Other males contraceptives are also being tested, including a topical gel and an injection.

Get ready, a future where men take birth control is close, till now, the burden of contraception has rested largely on the shoulders of women

The study on this new pill, which is the second male birth control pill has not yet been peer reviewed, and isn’t approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use just yet.

The same team of researchers developed both pills currently being tested.

Experts are of the opinion that this is promising

“In females you have many, many methods. You have the pill, you have the patch, you have the vaginal ring, you have intrauterine devices, injections,” Dr. Christina Wang, an FDA co-principal investigator and lead researcher at LA BioMed, told Time. “In men there is nothing that is like hormonal contraception. The standard is not equal for the genders.” This has been the opinion of many other people when the issue of birth control is brought up also

This new drug will work by reducing testosterone production low in the testes

What this means is that sperm production will be low, but the other effects of testosterone in the body will still be intact, for example: deep voices, baldness, muscle growth, libido will still be preserved

During the testing of this new pill, researchers gave 30 healthy men the contraceptive and 10 healthy men a placebo, and then monitored them for 28 days. During this time, the researchers looked at the men for side effects, but did not ask them to test the pill’s effectiveness by having sex with their partners.

Every single man was able to stay on the pill for the full duration of 28 days, with only minor side effects like acne, fatigue, headaches, and lower libidos, these are the same side effects that many women experience when also taking the pill. Only two of the man complained of minor erectile dysfunction

There are other kinds of control methods being tested for men also
